The Master of Science (M.S.) in Engineering Management degree program at Robert Morris University prepares students with backgrounds in engineering, computer science, mathematics and sciences for advancement in technical and managerial fields.

The American Society of Engineering Management defines the discipline of engineering management as the art and science of planning, organizing, allocating resources, and directing and controlling activities that have a technological component. This distinguishes engineering managers from other managers because they possess the ability to apply engineering principles and the skills to organize and direct technical projects and people in technical jobs.

RMU's innovative program will prepare you to apply knowledge and provide leadership in technical environments. Upon graduation, you'll be able to demonstrate an advanced level of intellectual achievement in the context of engineering projects and synthesize theory and practice in the design and development of engineering management systems.

Curriculum
The M.S. in Engineering Management degree program is offered in both thesis and non-thesis formats. You may select the format you wish to pursue based on your interests after you enroll in the program. A total of 30 credit hours is required to complete either the thesis or non-thesis format.

Thesis Option
Required Courses - 9 credits

ENGR5010 Engineering Cost Estimation and Financial Analysis
ENGR5020 Engineering Systems Analysis and Design
ENGR5030 Project Engineering and Management

Directed Electives - 15 credits

6-9 credits Engineering courses
6-9 credits Non-engineering courses

Thesis - 6 credits
Requires a minimum of six credits of applied research in an appropriate area of interest. A faculty advisor will assist you in defining a thesis topic. A defense before a faculty committee is required. The committee may include members of industry if appropriate and if approved by the department head.

Non-Thesis Option
Required Courses - 9 credits

ENGR5010 Engineering Cost Estimation and Financial Analysis
ENGR5020 Engineering Systems Analysis and Design
ENGR5030 Project Engineering

Directed Electives - 21 credits

9-15 credits Engineering courses
6-12 credits Non-engineering courses

Career Opportunities
A great majority of engineers and technical professionals spend a significant portion of their careers managing technical projects and people. You can expect excellent career enhancement opportunities as a result of the managerial and technical skills you'll obtain in this program.

If you're interested in a career change, the M.S. in Engineering Management degree can provide a distinct advantage. Many industries and government organizations seek individuals with advanced technical educations for positions of increased responsibility such as project leaders, chief engineers, engineering supervisors, directors of engineering, project managers, production managers and systems managers.

Graduates of the program typically add $5,000 to $15,000 to their annual salary. Starting salaries range from $50,000 to $75,000 or more, depending on the individual's current position in the industry and previous experience.

Laboratory Facilities
Robert Morris University's School of Engineering, Mathematics and Science houses modern engineering laboratories in The Learning Factory, an industrial-grade facility located in the newly renovated John Jay Center on the Moon Township campus. It includes manufacturing automation, metrology, rapid prototyping, materials testing and chemistry laboratories, as well as a fully equipped and networked computer learning center.

This fully equipped facility supports the applied research interests of students who choose to pursue the thesis option of the M.S. in Engineering Management degree program.

Application Procedures
To enter this program, you must have successfully completed a B.S. degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics or the sciences, and maintained a grade point average of 2.8 or higher on a 4.0 scale during the final 60 credit hours of that program of study. Applicants seeking to enter the program with less than three years of work experience after completing their undergraduate degree are required to submit official GRE (Graduate Record Exam) General Test scores no older than five years.
