More About the Nicholson Center
Opened in January 1999, the Edward A. Nicholson Student Center is the hub for all student activities and programs. The building was named in honor and recognition of Edward A. Nicholson's exemplary service as president of the University from 1989 - 2005. It was one of the first structures built during his tenure as president. It enhances a living-learning environment and provides a place for extracurricular programs that help students build leadership and managerial skills, encourage personal growth and self-discovery, and support learning.

The opening of the Nicholson Center brought to reality the need to create a more accessible campus and thereby bringing people and buildings closer together. The 78,000 square foot four-level building is located at the heart of the campus providing a gathering place for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and visitors. It houses the Barnes and Noble bookstore, Romo's Cafe, RMU Dining Services, the Food Court, academic offices, Student Life, Student Health Services, the Center for Student Success, Student Mailroom, and the office of International Student Services & Study Abroad Programs.

Aesthetically, the Nicholson Center is a blend of the traditional and modern concepts evident throughout the campus. The steel-frame construction is clad with brick masonry and Indiana limestone, and the sloped, standing-seam roof is covered in stainless steel. The rotunda, with its two glass enclosed elevators and grand spiral staircase, is one of the building's most dramatic features. Lounges located at each level of the rotunda provide a spectacular view of the campus. Topping the rotunda is a reinforced concrete dome and cupola.

The Nicholson Center is a building that all associated with Robert Morris University can be proud of. It embodies the traditions, expectations and spirit of the campus and, thus, serves as an integral part of every student's collegiate experience.
