OSCE
Aliquippa Flood Recovery with Uncommon Grounds

Welcome to the Office of Student Civic Engagement (OSCE) at Robert Morris University!

We are pleased that you have decided to check out the many ways to become involved in challenging and fun volunteer opportunities both on and off campus, explore careers in the nonprofit sector, expand your horizons through Alternative Break trips and develop your leadership skills through service.  You can do all of this and more through the OSCE.

Believing that learning takes place both in and out of the classroom, Robert Morris University is committed to engaging students in one-time and ongoing community service projects in settings as diverse as food pantries, after school programs, and nursing homes.  Whether your interest is in leading sports activities at a local children’s home, assisting elderly residents with home maintenance, mentoring at-risk youth, or planting flowers for the local parks conservancy, we have volunteer opportunities to appeal to all interests.  The OSCE encourages students to stop by, hang out and share ideas for new projects with us.  We’ll work with you to bring your creative ideas to fruition.

If you’re interested in exploring careers in the nonprofit sector, check out American Humanics.  Through a combination of classes, workshops, a service experience, attending a national conference and participating in American Humanics Student Association, you can earn a nationally recognized certification in addition to your degree that will provide you with the skills necessary to become one of the next generation of nonprofit leaders.

If you’re looking for a change of scene and change of pace, check out the Alternative Break Program!  Each year over spring break, groups of students and staff travel to other areas of the country to engage in enriching service projects that engage their hands, their hearts and their best thinking, as well.  Whether it’s working to end hunger and homelessness in Washington DC or building homes for low income families with Habitat for Humanity in North Carolina, an exciting and rewarding experience awaits you.

The OSCE is the place to be!  Our door is open to you!  Stop by and check us out!  You’ll be glad that you did!

Sincerely,
Donna Fetterman, Director
Office of Student Civic Engagement
